The Commodores coming off their most embarrassing loss to Texas traveled to Columbia to take on #7 South Carolina. Vandy struck first when Randon Fontenette intercepted a Gamecocks ball at the 18 yard line and took it back 82 yards for the touchdown.
South Carolina would scored the next 28 points, but Vandy didn't quit. Vandy went away from the Nate Johnson experience and went to Diego Pavia. He threw for 308 yards and a touchdown, but threw 5 interceptions which two of them went back for touchdowns.
Vandy had a chance to tie the game with under 2 minutes left, but a 4th down pass attempt went incomplete inside the 20 yard line. South Carolina would get a first down and run out the clock for a 28-21 win.
