Memphis improved to 7-1 (5-0) as they defeated UTSA this evening
The story was once again the Memphis defense, as they forced 5 turnovers including a pair of pick sixes.
Henigan had another good game , the SR QB went 9 for 12 for 207 yards and 2 touchdowns but did throw a costly pick that lead to great field position and score by the Roadrunners. RB Mario Anderson was bottled up for most of the day but did manage 59 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Our defense over the last 2 games has been amazing said Coach MGR afterwards. Hopefully we can keep this up because we play UAB and Rice next week and both of those squads have been on fire.
In what was easily the worst performance of the season for UTSA, they were ran out of the building Sunday night by the surging Tigers 42-7. On the first pass of the game, a wide open receiver was wide open no more as the safety ran in from 15 yards away to steal the pass and take it to the house for the quick 7-0 lead. It was downhill from there as early sacks from the Memphis defense combined with a couple of big plays from the Tiger offense put UTSA in a deeper hole. A nice touchdown drive seemed to get things settled, but a turnover riddled second quarter sent the game in a spiral downwards. Coach Tim said afterwards, "Memphis played a great game, and their defense was swarming. For us, that might've been the worse game I've coached in 30+ seasons. Nothing went right from bad passes to drops. Couple that with playing a great team, and it spells for a bad Sunday evening and a step back for the program."
