The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors delivered a convincing 38-13 victory over the Nevada Wolfpack on Saturday in Reno, thanks to a dominant performance by their high-powered offensive attack, known as the Chee Pono offense. Led by quarterback Brayden Schager, the Rainbow Warriors displayed an explosive offensive game that overwhelmed the Wolfpack at every turn. With the win, Hawaii improves to 3-4 on the season, and they now set their sights on a tough matchup against Fresno State next week.
Quarterback Brayden Schager was the driving force behind the Chee Pono attack, completing 21 of 24 passes for an impressive 285 yards and four touchdowns. Most importantly, Schager did all of this without turning the ball over, tossing zero interceptions on the day. His accuracy and poise in the pocket allowed Hawaii to stay ahead of Nevada throughout the game, and he never seemed rattled even when the Wolfpack tried to muster a comeback.
Schager’s precision was on full display, particularly when he connected with receiver Pofele Ashlock on multiple occasions. The junior signal-caller has been a key part of Hawaii’s resurgence, and his performance today will only bolster his confidence as the Rainbow Warriors look to finish the season strong.
Pofele Ashlock was the primary beneficiary of Schager’s precision passing, as he was targeted 10 times and came down with 10 catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Ashlock's playmaking ability was on full display as he routinely beat Nevada defenders with sharp route running and strong hands to make key grabs in the game.
Ashlock's performance was particularly impressive when the game was still in doubt. With Nevada trying to get back into the contest, Schager and Ashlock connected for a 35-yard touchdown, which served as a dagger that put the game out of reach. The pair showed a chemistry that had been building throughout the season, and their connection was lethal on Saturday afternoon.
The Chee Pono offense, a fast-paced, high-tempo system, was firing on all cylinders against Nevada. Hawaii’s offense was efficient and explosive, moving the ball at will and chewing up yards quickly. Schager’s quick release and the versatility of Hawaii’s receivers allowed the Rainbow Warriors to stretch the field, while running back Dedrick Parson chipped in with a solid performance on the ground.
Hawaii’s offensive line also played a significant role in the victory, providing Schager with ample time in the pocket and paving the way for a balanced attack. The offensive line held strong, allowing Schager to keep Nevada's pass rush at bay while opening up running lanes for Parson.
While the Chee Pono offense stole the spotlight, Hawaii’s defense also did its part in securing the win. The Rainbow Warriors’ defense was stout against Nevada’s offense, limiting the Wolfpack to just 13 points and forcing several key turnovers. The defensive front was relentless, keeping pressure on Nevada’s quarterback and making it difficult for the Wolfpack to sustain any significant drives.
With the win over Nevada, the Rainbow Warriors now sit at 3-4 on the season and will turn their attention to next week’s challenge: a road game against the Fresno State Bulldogs. Fresno State is a strong team with a potent offense, and Hawaii will need to bring their best game to keep their momentum rolling.
“We’re excited about the win, but we know we’ve got a tough road ahead,” said Schager after the game. “Fresno State is a great team, and we’ll need to execute at a high level if we want to keep this thing going.”
Despite the difficult challenge that awaits them, the Chee Pono attack is firing on all cylinders, and with Schager and Ashlock leading the way, Hawaii will be a tough team to beat in the coming weeks.
For now, though, the Rainbow Warriors can savor this dominant victory over Nevada—a statement win for a team that’s beginning to find its rhythm as the season progresses.
Hawaii pummeled Nevada from start to finish. Their offense couldnt be stopped while Nevada could never get theirs going. The run game and pass game were non existent. Not much positivity to be had from this matchup but Nevada will lick their wounds and move foward
