Washington St. holds on in the fourth quarter against a star studded San Diego State offense. The beginning of the game made it seem like the Cougars would cruise to the win, but Aztec's QB Cooper had a fire set on after halftime. Luckily, the Cougars defense, led by star defensive back J. Lataimua, stood tall against an outstanding comeback from the Aztecs. The game went back and fourth until the last 2:00 min of the 4th where the Cougars defense made a crucial turnover to seal the deal. This was an impressive win going into the Cougars Bye week. Hopefully they can keep this momentum going!
In a battle of future pac-12 foes, the Aztecs fell to Washington State 41-36.
Early on after two early stops, and Aztecs 7-0 lead, QB Danny O'Neal Couldnt hold onto the ball and fumbled near midfield, the cougs picked it up and took it back for a touchdown to make it 7-7.
This would be just the beginning of mistakes from O'Neal. Aztecs QB would go on to throw 5 interceptions totaling 6 turnovers for the game. Many of these mistakes were a direct result of the chaotic defensive play calling of the Cougars. Coach Z Said " Credit to their defense, they caused our mistakes which put us in a real bad position".
Down 35-17, late in the 3rd , the Aztecs preserved and crept back to take the lead 36-35.
Unfortunately, the Cougars had two more big plays in there arsenal. 1st was 50+ yard pass play resulting in a touchdown making it 41-36. The second , was the final interception of the game.
Both teams, were not short of some offensive fireworks, 900 yards total .
