The Central Michigan Chippewas won the first of their two games in the Michigan MAC Trophy round robin today against the Eastern Michigan Eagles from Ypsilanti. The Chippewa faithful was roaring load as CMU took the lead early on a 40+ yard Marion Lukes TD run and never looked back. Lukes lead the team with 211 yards and is looking to be the bell cow back that the fans and coach FiredUpChip was expecting him to be when he took the job in Mount Pleasant after coaching Braydon Bennett to the 2nd most rushing yards in the nation last year at Coastal Carolina.
Bert Emmanuel Jr. also did well in the air throwing for 3 scores as he has been more involved than FiredUpChip's quarterbacks typically are with his run heavy scheme. All that being said, this recap would not be accurate without mentioning the incredible work done on the defensive side of the ball by the Chips today as they forced 5 turnovers and safety Caleb Spann got his 2nd pick six in as many weeks with a nice return for a touchdown on his 2nd half interception.
Things seem to be looking up in Mount Pleasant and it appears that coach FiredUpChip's daunting non-conference schedule has taught his team how to play at their very best each week.
Good game coach BMitch, and Fire Up Chips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
