NDL: S30W8 - Tulane (42) at Rice (28)

EJ Warner loses a fumble in the fourth quarter

Owls Drowned in Green Wave

Article By: Doodee

The Rice Owls lost their first AAC game of the season in tough fashion to the Tulane Green Wave, despite a close game.

"We played hard, but honestly I think our offense was on the field a little too much, and was just tired by the end of the game. We weren't blocking well, catching the ball, throwing well...just couldn't make anything happen in the second half."

The game started with promise as Rice picked off a Tulane pass on the first play of the game and brought it in for six, then scored on their next possession, but Tulane would mount a comeback behind speedster WR Mario Williams. He caught two bombs, including a 75 yard touchdown.

The score at halftime was tied at 21-21, but the game was put out of reach in the fourth quarter after a pick six from EJ Warner and then a subsequent fumble recovered by Tulane.

"We kept the turnovers at bay in the first half, but we just made some mistakes," said Coach Doodee. "Looks like it's back to the practice field and work on zone coverage some more."
