Coach Vic took on the Colorado state rams and coach Korben and it wasn’t pretty at least for the Spartans.
Tied 7-7 in the first walker Eget throws a interception and it started going down hill from there another pick happened and it’s a pick six the score went from 7-7 to 28-7 at half. After halftime the Spartans played well scoring 14 points of there own and if it was a second half game they would’ve won but this here is a 4 quarter 2 half sport so the outcome was here by halftime. Smash and dash were held to 152 combined yards and 3tds (one receiving) but most of that was after halftime and the lead by the rams was large.
This is the Spartans 2nd loss but 1st conference loss of the season they take on Wyoming next and have Fresno and Utah in the next block.
The Rams showed up in a big way on the ground in this one.
Credit to the Rams offensive line they were man handling the Spartan d-line all game long.
Johnson started the first drive with a few great runs and then the Spartan Defense as they did most of the game shut down the Rams passing attack with a sack and forced incompletion. Then on a 3rd and 18 Fowler-Nicolosi hit his favorite target for a drive saving 22 yard post. The next play Johnson got to the edge and hit a vicious spin move on the Spartan safety for a 35 yard scamper.
The Spartans answered back with a solid drive mixing up run and pass very well and finally capitalizing on the blitz to hit a 47 yard pass to bring the game back even. Unfortunately for the Spartans the Rams D stepped up in a big way the rest of the half and didn't allow another score. Securing two interceptions
The Rams went on to secure a 28-7 first half lead that the Spartans couldn't over come. The Rams speed on the ground, great blocking up front, and amazing defensive play in the first half was the key to the game for them.
Great Gam coach Vic
