Article By: metrodee

In one of the most electrifying games of the 30th season of the NDL, the #7 South Carolina Gamecocks pulled off a monumental upset by defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide 31-17 in a thrilling clash at Williams-Brice Stadium. The victory not only marked a significant milestone for the Gamecocks and coach Metro but also sent shockwaves through the SEC.

From the opening kickoff, both teams displayed their intensity, but it was South Carolina that struck first. Kicker Alex Herrera banged in a 47 yard kick which is his longest of the year

Alabama quickly responded, Jalen Milroe led the Tide down the field, culminating in a field goal. The teams traded blows in a back-and-forth battle, with South Carolina’s defense showing remarkable resolve against Alabama’s potent offense and vice versa.

As the game progressed, Sellers started to shine, throwing for 178 yards and showcasing his ability to make clutch plays under pressure. A pivotal moment came late in the second quarter when Sellers connected with wide receiver Mateo Bennet for a touchdown and an Alabama missed field goals that led to a 10-10 tie going into halftime.

The second half saw South Carolina ramp up their efforts, getting out to a 17-10 lead with a touchdown pass from Sellers to tight end Joshua Simon.

The fourth quarter unloaded with South Carolina scoring two more touchdowns and Alabama in their best efforts scored a rushing touchdown late in the fourth but it proved too little too late.

This historic win sent the home crowd into a frenzy. The Gamecocks improved their record to 7-0 on the season, solidifying their position in the SEC standings and bolstering their chances for a coveted bowl game.

As fans celebrated this unforgettable upset, the victory served as a testament to South Carolina’s resilience and determination, marking a defining moment in their season.

Nick Emmanwori comes up with the game-changing interception

Alabama Falls to South Carolina, 31-17

Columbia, South Carolina - The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered their first setback of the season today, falling to the Gamecocks of South Carolina 31-17. The first half watch both teams struggle to establish any sort of momentum, as they went into the break dead-locked at 10-10. The Crimson Tide got the ball to start the second half and had a fantastic opening drive, marching down the field and into Gamecock territory, but the tide would quickly change. Jalen Milroe, looking for star wide receiver Ryan Williams in the end zone on a corner route would put too much air on the ball and could only watch in horror as Gamecock safety Nick Emmanwori hauled in the interception. Following that play the Tide simply could not get back on track as the Gamecocks ran away with the game. The Crimson Tide would score late in the game on a Milroe quarterback keeper to make the score look a bit more respectable at 31-17 but make no mistake, the game wasn't that close. "It was a humbling loss for sure," said coach McDonagh at the post-game press conference. "This next week of practice is going to decide how the rest of our season is going to go. It's gut check time." Up next for the Crimson Tide is a trip back home to take on their rivals the Volunteers of Tennessee.
