Coach Vic wins another one to improve to 3-0 and 2-0 in league play. The win started out rocky and Nevada was up after the first quarter after a missed fg by the Spartans that would have tied the game, but the rebounded with 14 quick points leading 14-10 at half. After halftime another 21 points were added (14 in the third and 7 in the fourth) to close out the win.
Walker Eget had his best passing day of the season throwing for 248 yards and 3 touchdowns he did throw 1 interception. The duo of smash and dash Floyd Chalk and Jabari Bates were a force with 203 combined yards and 3 touchdowns. They showed great efficiency and control of the clock, Their production kept the offense on the field, wore down Nevada’s defense.
The defense played big with 4 interceptions that were huge momentum-shifters. Each turnover deflated Nevada’s offensive rhythm and gave the Spartans offense more opportunities to score. This level of defensive play also takes pressure off the offense, allowing them to manage the game better. Jordan Cobbs linebacking running mate Jordan pollard got his hands on a ball this time getting an interception along with 9 total tackles. The biggest play of the day went to DJ Harvey he absolutely locked down his side of the field with 3 defections and a cool looking interception in the red zone.
The Spartans still await for the Washington state cougars but also have Colorado state and Wyoming next on the schedule.
In a game that was relatively close until the end of the 3rd quarter Nevada surrendered their 18-10 lead to fall to 0-4 . San Jose started slowly but ultimately came out of the half as a different team. They forced nevada to go away from the run game and forced the ball in the air leading to 4 interceptions and 25 second half points. Next up for nevada will be a tough road match up against coastal carolina.
