Logan, UT - Following a triumphant sense of balance and order in a shootout with the Chee Pono Rainbow Warriors, Coach Roc and the Broncos were blessed with a sobering reality: They don't throw the ball well consistently. The good news was that the Utah St Aggies didn't today either. A game that totaled 10 interceptions between the two teams became a war of attrition as Coach Roc could not get 'Mr. Efficient going today. After a disgusting set of back-to-back interceptions, Coach Roc stuck with his guy, hoping that the absolute mauling that Ashton Jeanty was putting on the Aggies would soften them up. It did, and Madsen got the looks he wanted, but ball placement was a problem all day.
Thankfully Spencer Petras was a firm believer in the arm punt as well, throwing 7 INTs, one of which was returned by the Broncos for 6. This back-and-forth affair kept the game dangerously close for the Broncos as they tetered in to trap game territory early on. However, Jeanty got going thanks in part to Jambres Dubar's heavy involvement in the rotation. Both backs put the team on their shoulders and literally carried them to victory to the tune of almost 400 yards rushing between the two of them. Madsen did make a clutch 3rd & 12 play when the game was still undecided, however, Austin Bolt was run down after an 80-yard scamper to take it to the Aggie's 3-yard line. There, Jeanty punched it in for one of his 4 TDs on the day, and finished with a career day, shattering his own BSU rushing record set earlier this season with 298 yards rushing. Jambres Dubar, who was brought in to spell Jeanty got his as well, going 10 for 102 with two TDs of his own.
With this win, the Broncos improve to 4-2 just in time for a back half of the schedule that will prove difficult to navigate. The Broncos return home for a game against UNLV and coach Black Rain who will no doubt be looking for revenge after last year's defensive struggle. Then the red hot #22 ranked SDSU Aztecs will host the Jeantys in what is sure to be a key matchup in the 5 headed race for the MWC crown.
