Blazers Win on Green Wave Mishap

Article By: coachjackb

In a game that will surely go down as an NDL classic, the UAB Blazers emerged victorious against AAC contender Tulane Green Wave. Despite a rocky start—Blazers quarterback Jacob Zeno threw an interception on his first pass—he rebounded with an outstanding performance, racking up 321 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. Running back Lee Beebe Jr. also had a productive day, rushing for 109 yards.

The Blazers’ defense, however, struggled to contain Tulane’s relentless offense, which piled up over 350 passing yards and 200 rushing yards. UAB's saving grace was its ability to force turnovers, which kept them in contention. Down 29-24 late in the fourth quarter, the Blazers managed to score a go-ahead touchdown with just over a minute left, though they couldn’t convert a two-point attempt that would’ve given them a three-point cushion.

With no timeouts, Tulane marched swiftly down the field, reaching UAB’s 1-yard line with only 38 seconds remaining. Just when all seemed lost for the Blazers, Tulane attempted a halfback dive to drain the clock, but in an unexpected twist, Green Wave running back Makhi Hughes misclicked a pitch, sending the ball 15 yards back, where the Blazers' defense recovered it. Game over—Blazers win!

Green Wave of Heartbreak

Article By: TilnaciousD

UAB-Tulane will go down as one of the classic games of season 30 as both teams fired back and forth from the moment the game kicked off until the very end. Tulane started off hot, earning a 10-0 lead off a short field goal and a Makhi Hughes rushing TD. Tulane would hold on to the lead for now, going into halftime up 20-14.

Jacob Barnes tacked on a 51-yard field goal to begin the third quarter, pushing the lead to 9 point. From here on out, UAB's offense would outscore Tulane 16-6, only allowing the Green Wave two field goals. UAB would take a 30-29 lead with 1:12 to go, allowing Tulane the opportunity to push down the field one last time.

That is precisely what Tulane did, executing runs and passes to push down the field, earning a spot at the 1 yard line with 38 seconds remaining. Tulane attempted to rush the ball and go down to run the clock out for the game-winning field goal, but Makhi Hughes had a mental breakdown and immediately pitched the ball backwards 15 yards and losing the ball to end the game in heartbreaking fashion.
