Badgers Lean on Defense
Article By: West Lafayette, IN - Associated Press
Are the Wisconsin Badger back? We won't get that far ahead of ourselves, but after losing 2 in a row, the Badgers have now rattled off 3 straight wins and looked very good in the process.
The transition to Braedyn Locke has been solid progress for the offense, as he accounted for 2 TDs and only threw one INT this game.
Wisconsin and Purdue were like to boxers in the first quarter feeling each other out, but the 2nd quarter is where things changed drastically, as Wisconsin jumped out to a 21-0 lead. Purdue did have a great end of the half drive to get the score 21-6 going into the break, and then scored again to open the half to really make things interesting at 21-13.
The Badgers then failed to score on their next drive, but the defense then buckled down. The offense was able to flip the field and force Purdue inside it's own 20, and that's where all-american hopeful Ricardo Hallman made a play.
"Shoutout the LBs and D-Line on that play, their coverage underneath and their pass rush forced the QBs eyes into a place he didn't expect. I was just in the right place and the right time and was able to make the catch and take it to the house" said Hallman.
Wisconsin never looked back, as they then went up 35-13 to virtually seal the deal on a 62 yard TD run from Tawee Walker.
GG Razor, always a pleasure playing you and glad I could get some revenge from the butt kicking you gave my last season. Til next time brother!
Purdue Turns It Over Again
Article By: Purdue came in to this game hopeful to turn their luck around and for one quartier it looked like they could go toe to toe with the perennial Big Ten power Wisconsin. However, the house of cards fell apart in the second quarter once again due to turnovers by the Boilermakers. Hudson Card was responsible for five in total as he threw three interceptions and had an uncharacteristic two fumbles to go with it.
Three of the five turnovers resulted in points from Wisconsin as they were quickly able to capitalize on the mistakes. Once their offense finally got rolling, there was no looking back for the Badgers as they were able to extend their lead whenever needed.
Wisconsin used a fumbled and interception in the second quarter to surge out to a 21-0 lead after the early stalemate. Things looked bleak for Purdue, at that point, but Card was able to steady himself and drive Purdue for a late passing TD right before half. However, the pressure of playing in front of the home crowd was too much for the special team's unit as they failed to convert the XP.
A second touchdown to start the second half made things very interesting as the Boilermakers drew within 21-13. Things were looking good as Purdue started warming up and the stadium was beginning to buzz. However, Wisconsin would have none of that and promptly clamped back down on defense making arguably the play of the day when they rocked Hudson Card on a QB run at the goal line and took what looked like a sure TD away from Purdue. The Badgers promptly marched 97 yards down the field for the touchdown that was seal any chance of Purdue getting back into it.
Purdue will now regroup and try to determine where to go from here. With games looming against Nebraska, Michigan State and Oregon in the coming weeks, the road does not get easier from here.
Great game man! Looking forward to the rematch!
