Huskies Win In Comeback Fashion
Article By: In a thrilling comeback win, the Washington Huskies Defeated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 39-35.
The first quarter was all Rutgers. On the second play, RB Kyle Monangai ran for an 82 yard score. The Huskies drove down the field but stalled out with a missed field goal. The Scarlet Knights came back with another score on a 13 yard TD to Dymere Miller.
A long Husky drive led to the second quarter, and finished off with a Grady Gross field goal. The Scarlet Knights once again dominated the line of scrimmage down the field, scoring on another Dymere Miller TD. The huskies looked to have lost all momentum after their drive stalled out and were forced to punt. However, newcomer CB Thaddious Dixon in his debut game with the Huskies had other plans, returning and interception for a TD. On the next drive, once again Thaddious Dixon was able to secure another interception in set up the Husky offense in good field position. The offense was able to capitalize on a 3rd down 40 yard TD pass to WR Giles Jackson. The scarlet Knights were able to close the half out strong with a a 3 minute TD drive capped off on a 7 yard Kyle Monangai run.
The Huskies received the ball after the half, and were able to score on a long 60 yard TD pass to Jeremiah Hunter. The Huskies were then able to convert on the 2 point try to go down by only 3. The Scarlet Knights weren't finished, scoring on the next drive with an 18 yard TD pass to Dymere Miller, his 3rd of the day. The Huskies offense was ready to roll, however. On another 3rd down pass, WR Denzel Boston was able to take a pass 56 yards for a TD. The Huskies were then finally able to get a stop on defense right at the start of the 4th quarter.
Down 3, scoring some points was crucial. The Huskies were able to drive down the field and score a 23 yard TD pass to WR Giles Jackson, putting them ahead by 4 with 5 minutes to go. The Scarlet Knights took their time on a long drive, getting to the redzone with 40 seconds to go. After some stops, the Scarlet Knights had a 4th and inches from the 18 yard line with 40 seconds to go. Senior LB Carson Bruner stuffed Kyle Monangai right at the line to gain, ending the game.
