BYU loses conference opener at Kansas St

Article By: TheBruisedBagel

After the first drive, BYU trailed 0-7. However, they responded quickly scoring a touchdown in under a minute. BYU thought that their offense would be enough to lead them to a victory in a shootout, but after couple turnovers the lead became to much to handle. Those turnovers along with BYU's inability to stop the Kansas State offense is what ultimately led to BYU's loss. BYU will be looking to make major changes to the defense and offensive line going forward. If you're wondering why the offensive line, BYU discovered that a 67 overall freshman was starting at tackle. We are not sure why, but he was giving up a lot of sacks and pressures.

Offensive Player of the Game:
LJ Martin -
12 carries, 41 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 7 receptions, 162 receiving yards

Defensive Player of the Game:
Ben Bywater -
8 tackles, 1 TFL

Wildcat defensive end Cody Stufflebean sack BYU QB Gerry Bohanon

MANHATTAN, KANSAS - AP

With anything that works there are formulas to solving problems and creating solid stable elements, forces, teams, etc...Kansas State after a whole season and 2 NDL Cups under their belt is starting to figure out more of this teams formula to perform at a high level and win some games. The run game, is the biggest key and not falling behind. With those two things the wildcats have been able to sit back and pass where it makes sense and not force the issue and behold they are +8 in turnover margin and 2-0 when that is their focus. It's early but we'll see how it develops for the Cats. As for the game itself KSU jumped out quickly and never looked back a steady dose of the run game (33 attempts) to the tune of 7.8ypc propelled offense, and then that set-up big plays in the passing game that came with open fields as the defenders looked to press up and fill the run fits. The defense is still finding their groove getting non-turnover stops. Bohanon was a Jack of all trades throw for 315 yards and running for a TD, and LJ Martin continued to show why he is at the top of the APY list in the Big XII with a strong performance running past and through KSU defenders. Three interceptions were just too much to overcome with the Cats scoring on every drive accept for a missed FG attempt by kicker Chris Tennant. Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to Stillwater and their second bye week of the season to follow.

GG & GL to you in the season BYU.
