In a game that has been circled since teams were announced a few weeks ago, two old foes but new BIG XII coaches clashed in Week 4 as the Colorado Buffaloes flew into Waco, Tx to take on the Baylor Bears.
Both teams have high aspirations moving into the new conference, with legitimate shots at making the CFP. Baylor came in with 1 thing in mind, protect the football and do not let Travis Hunter beat you, as in just 1 game so far he showed why he is special previous to this one and the Bears had to scheme for him.
The bears received the opening kick off and drive the length of the field after a huge Richard Reese 40 yard run, and eventually capped it off with a Reese TD to go up 7-0. Colorado drove half the length of the field, but a user lurk by Lemear picked off Sanders to give the first break to the Bears. The short field led to more "pounding the rock" with Reese and Pendergrass, ultimately leading to a Pendergrass rushing TD.
CU was able to get on the board on their next drive as Sanders hit Hunter on a deep seam route while trying to be manually covered but he slowest white man on earth Matt Jones ( i do not recommend this strategy). Thankfully he didn't score on the play, but the damage was done as the Buffs closed it to 14-7. BU got the ball back and again methodically drove the field and kicked a FG to go up 17-7 with about 1 minute left in the half.
ON the ensuing drive Sanders spread the field with 4 receivers to the right on the short side, and a lone WR to the left, as he tried to throw the long comeback all the way across the field CB Tayshaun Wilson sat on the route picked it off and took it the house to put the Bears up 24-7 .
The second half turned into a LOS battle for bears as they just wanted to keep that clock moving, and on defense don't give up any big plays. And despite only having the ball 2x and being outscored 14-7 in the second half, the BU Bears were able to secure the 31-21 victory in Waco and move to 4-0 on the season with a huge Block 3 matchup with Smitty and his ISU Cyclones looming in what looks like another ranked vs ranked matchup of old MAC foes
In a wild showdown in Waco, the Baylor Bears handed Colorado a 31-21 loss, thanks to a defensive game plan that looked like it was drawn up by a team of scientists with Travis Hunter as the test subject. Despite the Bears throwing every trick in the book at him, Hunter still managed to catch 4 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. But let's be honest — the real story wasn’t Hunter’s heroics. It was Baylor's defense, which turned Colorado's offense into a chaotic blender of incomplete passes and stuffed runs. When they weren't busy turning the Buffs into a sack lunch, Baylor's offense was doing their best steamroller impression, racking up nearly 200 yards on the ground. Apparently, their game plan was to run the ball until the Buffs tapped out or simply forgot how to tackle.
The highlight—or lowlight, depending on your team allegiance—came courtesy of Baylor’s bulldozer in cleats, running back Dawson Pendergrass. The man had the audacity to break seven tackles on one run, punctuating each broken tackle with a “sit down, b****!” heard echoing through the stadium. Colorado head coach DCanady, who appeared to be halfway to calling the FBI mid-game, later demanded Pendergrass be tested for steroids. While the Baylor camp insists that Pendergrass is fueled by nothing more than pure rage and a steady diet of brisket, Canady wasn’t convinced. He said in the post-game presser, “If that man’s not juiced up, I’ll eat my own whistle.” Safe to say, things got spicy both on and off the field in this Big 12 clash.
