Wake and UVA start their seasons today with a conference game. Wake offensively was on fire as QB Bachmeier was a perfect 13-13 on the day. Combined with a solid running game from Claiborne and an opportunistic defense, the Deacons came away with a 38-20 win. Big story of the game was Wake’s defense holding UVA out of the end zone and forcing field goals until the 4th quarter. Coach Doc is as solid as they come and had two beautiful fourth quarter drives that had Wake’s head spinning. The Deacs now get ready for a tough OOC game against Texas Tech.
Wake Forrest came in to this game ready to roll and they rolled right over the Cavs. Wake dominated the game and never looked back
In the 1st half UVA opened up the game with a nice little drive that chewed up 5 minutes off the clock and it ended with a Will Bettridge 35 yd FG. Wake didn't waste anytime scoring to TDs. Demond Claiborne went for a 57 yd run off the right side and Donavon Greene added a 5 yd pass to Hank Bachmeier.
In the 2nd quarter Wake had another great drive and it ended with a Michael Frogge run of 1yd. UVA answered back with at Bettridge 35 yd FG. Bachmeier was at it again finding Micah Mays Jr. for 12 yds to end the half.
In the 3rd quarter the only scoring was a Tate Carney 5yd TD reception.
The 4th quarter UVA came a live to late but the offense moved the ball. Chris Tyree caught 2 toughdowns from Anthony Colandrea for 7 & 15 yds. Wake added a 30yd FG from Mathew Dennis.
UVA looked sloppy and needs to be better with Arkansas waiting in the wings. Only time will tell if UVA can get it together.
UVA PLAYER OF THE GAME
Antonio Clary - 10 tackles
