The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets pull off the upset of the Syracuse Orange at home. In an early-season ACC matchup, the Jackets found a way to come up big defensively with 6 interceptions. On offense, Jamal Haynes leads the way with 150 rushing yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Syracuse football faced a tough battle on the road against Georgia Tech, succumbing to a 38-20 loss that left the team and its fans disappointed. The defeat highlighted some critical areas for improvement as Coach Mark Berokoff acknowledged being outplayed and outcoached throughout the contest.
From the opening whistle, it was clear that Georgia Tech was prepared and poised to capitalize on their home field advantage. The Yellow Jackets established control early, leveraging a balanced offensive attack that kept the Syracuse defense guessing. Despite some flashes of promise from the Orange, they struggled to keep pace as Georgia Tech built a commanding lead.
The first half was particularly challenging for Syracuse, who found themselves down. Turnovers plagued their efforts, disrupting the offensive rhythm and stalling drives. Quarterback play was inconsistent, and the inability to convert on critical third downs further hampered their chances.
In his post-game press conference, Coach Berokoff was candid about the team's shortcomings. “We were outplayed and outcoached today,” he said, visibly frustrated but resolute. “It’s a tough loss, and we need to own it. I take full responsibility, and I promise our fans that we will do better. We owe it to them to improve and compete at a higher level.”
The second half saw Syracuse try to mount a comeback, scoring two touchdowns, but each attempt was met with a swift response from Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets’ defense tightened, and their offense continued to find ways to exploit gaps, ultimately sealing the game in their favor.
Despite the loss, there were glimpses of potential from Syracuse, particularly in their resilience to fight back and keep pushing forward. Running backs and receivers made key plays that showcased the talent on the roster. However, the inconsistency will need to be addressed in the coming weeks if the Orange hope to turn the season around.
As the team heads back to Syracuse, Coach Berokoff emphasized the importance of regrouping and focusing on the next game. “We need to learn from this experience,” he said. “We will evaluate everything and come back stronger. Our fans deserve better, and we are committed to delivering that for them.”
The road ahead won’t be easy, but the Syracuse program is determined to bounce back. With Coach Berokoff's leadership and a dedicated roster, there’s hope that the lessons learned from this tough loss will translate into improved performance as the season progresses. The journey continues, and the Orange are ready to rise to the challenge.
Coach Berokoff- Well, that was a tough one, the road trip to Atlanta was not good, too much good food and the hotel was a little maybe a tad high class for us, we will need to get that figured out. Great job by JBK, dude is a massive get for the NDL, plays the right way, upholds the traditions of the NDL.
