The Marshall Thundering Herd lose their bowl game by their own mistakes. The Herd were in a 35-35 ball game late in the fourth quarter and ultimately throw two pick-sixes in the final two minutes of the game to seal their fate. It has been a good season and the Herd definitely exceeded expectations.
28-point 4th quarter leads Golden Hurricane over the Thundering Herd
Tulsa opened the game quickly with a 66-yard TD pass from Cardell Williams to Ethan Hall. A missed FG by Marshall and a subsequent TD drive capped off by a Bill Jackson run had Tulsa up 14-0 early.
After the initial outburst, Marshall stormed back to tie the game and both teams traded touchdowns until a costly interception on an RPO at the Marshall 1-yard line was brought back for 6 and the Golden Hurricane found themselves down at halftime.
The third quarter was more back-and-forth, until Tulsa took the lead by 7 with 2:45 to play. Then the Tulsa defense turned it up a notch forcing pick 6's in 15 seconds, one by Sean O'Keefe and the second by MLB Chris Thompson who's appearance on the roster midway through the season helped to stabilize a leaky Golden Hurricane defense. Thompson's pick 6 put the Golden Hurricane up 21 and sealed a 9-4 season for CoachCounty in his first season back in the NDL in nearly 20 years.
