The Nebraska Blackshirt Defense was formidable in the first round of the CFP, forcing seven interceptions in a thrilling 8 vs 9 matchup. The offense initially struggled but managed to make crucial plays to stay in contention by the fourth quarter.
The roaring crowd made it challenging for the offense to build momentum, and Raiola had limited time to make downfield passes due to Georgia's incredibly fast defense. The Huskers' offense was so disrupted that even executing a simple screen pass or a flat pass became chaotic.
In the final quarter, Georgia held a seven-point lead until Lloyd's spectacular 40-yard end-around touchdown tied the game. Georgia methodically advanced to field goal range but then threw a pass that Gifford intercepted in the end zone (Georgia's fifth turnover), which he returned for a touchdown, giving the Huskers a seven-point lead with approximately two minutes remaining. Georgia pushed towards the red zone but was thwarted by another interception. Nebraska, keen to run down the clock, only needed one first down, but Irvin broke free for a 70-yard touchdown, extending the lead to two scores with only 30 seconds left, sealing the victory.
