Former UNC QB turned LB Jace Ruder lead UNT in tackles tonight16-0 dreams dashed! -coach fsupenguin
Article By: Media members struggled to suppress their laugher in post game press conference, upon hearing the quote from the head coach, still the North Texas season began with plenty of excitement. Sadly though the night ended in disappointment, as an uneven effort from the UNT offense deprived the home crowd from going home happy.
In what could be looked at as a respectable showing, especially vs a stronger opponent from the Big 12, the UNT offense left the coaching staff frustrated. 3/10 on 3rd down, 3 points in the 3rd quarter, and two big mistakes in the 3rd quarter that turned a 14-3 lead into a 14-17 deficit in less than 60 seconds.
On the other side of the ball, despite giving up more than 400 yards off offense, the UNT defense came away with 5 turnovers and a pair of defensive TDs, and even made a big late stop to give the offense one more chance. As for special teams, only bright spot was a 31 yard late punt return by speedster Landon Sides.
Attention now turns to an even tougher opponent with a visit from SMU and the battle for the Safeway Bowl, coming later this week.
