Penn State traveled south to take on the Mean Green of North Texas.
The Mean Green defense played tough, forced a three and out on the opening drive and set the tone for the remainder of the game.
The Penn State defense, not to be outdone got their lone interception and returned it with in the 10. The offense took advantage of the short field and punched it in for six to go up 7-0.
North Texas would put a nice drive togehter but stahl out and have to settle for a 29 yard field goal to make it 7-3.
After exchanging punts the North Texas offense would find that big play, hitting a 45 yard bomb as the slot recieved got behind his man and Chandler Morris found him with a nice dime. NT up 10-7.
Penn State would put a drive of their own together and Allar would hit his slot reciever over the middle for a 5 yard score to go up 14-10 entering the half.
The second half was dominated by North Texas who grabbed two picks and put together three drives into Penn State territory however they would miss two of the three field goals leaving the game at 14-13.
Penn State offense would settle down, chew up some clock, force NT to use up all their time outs and put together a 4 minute drive that stahled with a sack in the red zone forcing them to take the field goal and go up 17-13 with 1:10 left in the game.
North Texas would sling the rock all over the field. With :11 left they would hit thier man in the flat and had to make a quick decision, attempt to run in or hit the sideline. The wideout stepped out at the 5 with six seconds to go, setting up one last play to try and win it. NT would line up 4 spread out wide and the back to the right of the quarterback. Chandler Morris would drop back and PSU would drop into zone sending only four down line man. Morris hit Ward crossing the middle who made the grab at the one but was meet by the linebacker and he went down a yard for the end zone.
Good Game FSUPenguin. Take it to them in conference play.
A gritty effort, a few big plays, some solid defense. This sounds like the formula needed for UNT for pull off an upset. But cannot make a FG outside of 29 yards, and laying an egg in crunch time, these are the calling cards of this team thus far.
