Trojans Fall Flat as Goose Washes Out

Troy, AL (AP) -

Troy (State) packed their bags and took the show on the road to open the NDL Season facing off with an explosive Purdue Boilermaker team. The Trojans started the game off strong on the ground but soon found themselves in trouble as Junior QB Goose Crowder threw his first of 4 interceptions on the day. Goose finished the day with a 63.6 QB ratings and was unable to find consistent success throughout the air.

There were some bright spots on the day. Starting halfback Damien Taylor popped off for 153 rushing yards and (2) rushing touchdowns. We asked Taylor about his performance and he said I appreciate Coach having faith in me to produce today. I know things did not go as planned and I had to carry more of the load than we had planned but that is how the game goes sometimes and I am ready to step up and do my part.

Pictured above is Taylor after his second rushing TD on the day.

After the game we also caught up with Coach AUChase and asked him for his thoughts on the game today game. He had this to say:

First of all I appreciate you guys following us here and reporting on our team. We are disappointed with the results but hopefully we learned some valuable lessons we can utilize going forward in future games. At this point our plan is to get home, rest, and get back in the lab to prep for UAB. I know their coach has a long history in this league and we have a lot of respect for what they are building in Birmingham. Where a lot of schools in this state are too scared or let politics get in the way of their schedule, we did what we thought was best for UAB and Troy fans alike. As for this game, Purdue got the better of us. We have the utmost respect for them and the way they played today. There are no excuses just things we need to work on and be better at. We have to work on our reads and stop forcing bad passes that are outside if the game plan. I will sit down with Goose and the offensive staff on the plane tonight and start working on the future. We hope to see you there too.
