The defense played the hero and villain today as they gave up over 450 yards, but got 3 interceptions, 2 of which were returned for touchdowns.
What was looking like a drive from Iowa where the clock would be ran out, cornerback Keyon Martin returns a 52 pick-6 to make it a 3 point game. The game came down to an onside kick, where Louisiana was unfortunately unable to recover. The game finished in a 27-30 loss for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.
All spring and summer the Hawkeyes struggled to put teams away. This proved to still be the case in their Week 1 opener against Louisiana. Iowa came out firing and took an early lead behind the 204 yard rushing day by Leshon Williams. They never trailed but Hawkeyes just couldn't put away the Cajuns. After settling in and getting used to the road atmosphere the Cajuns stayed withing striking distance the whole game. Iowa defense proved to be stout as expected only giving up 13 points, while the offense threw 2 pick 6's. The defense was lead by their own pick from Sebastian Castro that would give the Hawkeyes the lead for good. Iowas is looking forward to putting their mistakes behind them, and get back to Iowa football, running the ball, winning the turnover battle, and great defense.
