NDL: S29W2 - Arizona State (17) at Bowling Green (31)

Slow start but a strong finish carries Bazalek and BGSU over ASU

Old Rivalry Renewed on Wooster Street

Article By: VegasXXii

In week 2 of the NDL 29th Season, the Sun Devils of ASU flew to Ohio to take on the Falcons of BGSU. For the Falcons and Head Coach Vegas, this was the first OOC game they scheduled and one of the major reasons he wants to compete in the NDL.

For the 2nd straight week BGSU started to drive the field on their opening drive, but it was a costly fumble by TE Fannin JR inside the ASU 30. The teams proceeded to exchange punts in what was a very slow paced, run heavy, 0-0 first qtr. With the teams tied at 3, ASU scored the games first TD inside of two mins of the first half to go up 10-3. QB Connor Bazelek proceeded to lead a successful half ending drive and hit WR Blackburn for the short TD with 1 sec left in the half to tie the game at 10.

The BGSU defense stayed stingy in the 2nd half forcing multiple interceptions including 2 by SS Darius Lorfils. The offense got rolling behind RB Terion Stewart with 14 carries for 119 yards on the ground to go along with 37 yards receiving. The big play was a 57 yard bomb up the sideline to Blackburn to put the Falcons up 2 scores and they never looked back despite a late score from ASU, as they win 31-17 in their home opener.

After the game Coach Vegas was asked about the game vs his old rival, "On this day, we were fortunate to squeak one out vs one of the best leaders/users of digital people. We look forward to many more battles season after season with the Brother_Beige."

Players of the Game
Offensive- QB Connor Bazelek 19/24 329 yds 3 total tds 0 ints
Defensive- SS Darius Lorfils 9 total tackles, 1 tfl, 2 ints

Coach Vegas and VT rivalry is alive and well

Sun Devils Stunned In Opener

Arizona State kicks off their season with a road game follow a Week 1 BYE week.

In a game marked by explosive offenses and costly turnovers, Bowling Green emerged victorious over Arizona State with a final score that reflected the closely contested battle on the field. The Falcons racked up 435 yards of total offense, outgaining the Sun Devils, who amassed 364 yards. Both teams struggled to establish their ground games, with Bowling Green managing 106 rushing yards compared to Arizona State’s 58.

The passing game took center stage, as Arizona State’s aerial attack generated 306 yards, while Bowling Green wasn’t far behind with 329 yards through the air. Despite the Sun Devils converting 100% of their third downs, it was Bowling Green’s efficiency in the red zone that proved to be the difference. The Falcons capitalized on all their red zone opportunities, scoring three touchdowns and one field goal, while Arizona State managed just one touchdown.

Turnovers were a major storyline as well, with Arizona State giving the ball away three times, including three interceptions, while Bowling Green had just one turnover—a fumble. The Falcons also sacked Arizona State’s quarterback three times, compared to just one sack by the Sun Devils’ defense.

In the end, Bowling Green’s ability to convert in the red zone and limit mistakes allowed them to come out on top in a game where both offenses shined but ultimately, defense and discipline made the difference.

Arizona State falls to 0-1 on the year.
