Troy travels to the Linc in Philadelphia to play the Temple Owls. Troy is know for their very strong run game that they have used in previous games before this but it wasn't too much help against the Owls. Although Troy was able to win the time of possesion by almost double (18:00 to 9:00) they weren't able to put up the amount of points they wanted. It was like their defense couldn't stop a wet tissue as Temple was pretty much scoring with ease almost every drive. Damarious Crews had himself a field day with the Trroy defense, being able to put up 283 yards on the ground on only 14 carries averaging 20 yards a carry. Along with the large amount of yards, he finished the game with 4 touchdowns and the backup even having a touchdown. Talking to the coach of Troy after the game he says, "That was the lowest production game for my starting HB. My tackles were getting destroyed." The offense of temple was the star of the show although they were only on the field for 9 minutes, but the defense was putting in work holding Troy to 14 points in the first half and recording a defensive touchdown. Troy was able to get the ball moving a little bit in the second half shutting temple out in the thrid quarter but it wasn't enough to come back and win the game.
The Troy Trojans traveled to Philadelphia, PA to take on the Temple Owls at Lincoln Financial Field and came away with a 34-56 defeat. The crowd was loud and disruptive all day and if you pictured everyone wearing green you would think the attendance and noise was up to part with the loudest Philadelphia Eagles atmospheres.
Offensively, Troy has moved the ball consistently on the ground this year but today the offensive line consistently lost their battles and running on the interior of Temple's defense was a challenge. Most of the running success came outside the tackles. Starting running back Damien Taylor still eclipsed the 100 yard mark with 128 yards but also contributed through the air as QB Goose Crowder was forced to check the ball down a lot today. Taylor finished the day with 208 all purpose yards including a receiving touchdown.
The story of the game was Troy's inability to tackle or not give up the big play. Temple scored multiple times on HUGE plays. Some of the scoring drives included Temple scoring on a 47, 75, 80, 74, and 62 yard play. Troy's defense could have stayed home and saved the University travel dollars. Coach AUChase is not ruling that strategy out of future away games. After the game he hinted that the money could be used to fund the Trojans' new NIL program and buy players that will actually tackle.
Troy has a bye next week before opening up conference play at home vs. ULM. Coach AUChase plans to use the time to sharpen the team by participating in the Beefy Cup as well as forcing the team to watch some of the better teams in the league that know how to tackle.
