It was a great day in NDL history as the Oregon State beavers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights face off on kickoff weekend after a 10 year hiatus. It would be a struggle for the Scarlet nights as they would throw two interceptions that resulted in a multi score lead in favor of the beavers. At one point, Rutgers coach benched starting quarterback for the back up who would actually mount a 14 point swing to get within three late in the game. Ultimately, the beavers would pick up the much needed win 24 to 21.
Rutgers fell just short of a 4th quarter comeback against a much improved Oregon State team. Rutgers started slow, not scoring their first touchdown until late in the second half but they scored 14 points in the 14th quarter. Oregon State's efficient offense stalled late in the game but its 17 point cushion built in the 3rd quarter was all it needed to escape with a victory.
