WACO — Knowing that 1 yard was all No. 8 Baylor (7-0, 4-0) needed, Coach Carr thought back to that play before a run was called for Monaray Baldwin, who rushed 6 yards up the middle and just short of the goal line with 2 minutes remaining.
“I told someone on the headset, ‘It wouldn’t surprise me if he creases this'", Carr said. “And, of course, it happened.”
Monaray Baldwin caught 6 receptions for 243 yards and 3 touchdowns and his subsequent jet sweep turned dive, set up the winning run by quarterback Dequan Finn as Baylor knocked off fourth-ranked Kansas (10-1, 7-1)
“We worked really hard throughout the season to build the identity of a tough team that really cares about each other, the transition between coaches isn't going ro take away from our identity as a team” Finn said. "Coach Carr told us when he arrived, he was just gunna let us loose and play football and there's nothing that can stop us when we put it all on the table."
Finn outdueled Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels, who completed 21 of 29 passes for 234 yards. Finn was similarly efficient in going 15 for 21, including 3 touchdowns to Balwdin in a battle of veteran QBs.
There was some former star power, too, 2011 Heisman winning QB Robert Griffin III was among the sold out crowd of 50,233 fans in attendance at McLane Stadium. Fans on Twitter have speculated a possible assistant coaching position in the near future for Griffin since his departure from ESPN. Former Russian detainee Brittany Griner was spotted on the sideline with Mark Cuban, Lavar Ball and other basketball standouts as the Big 12 is proving to be more than just a basketball schools.
The Jayhawks fall just short of an undefeated season after Daniels 4th fumble of the game on 4th and inches
While the offense was very efficient, they were too mistake prone with Daniels throwing 1 int and fumbling the ball 4 times. Kansas may should have leaned on the run game more in this one as when Neal got the ball he was unstoppable averaging 18.7 per carry
The defense did not hold up to their standards as well after giving up 444 yards of offense. They gave up multiple coverage busts leaving a receiver wide open. They were unable to garner much pressure on the qb with 0 sacks on the day
The Jayhawks are locked into the Big 12 Championship. They will need to play much better and cleaner to win
