Miami, FL (AP) - In a must win game for the Raiders of MTSU, the team played an awesome second half to reach their season win goal and keep coach Packsy's hopes and his job in tact.
"We had a goal of winning 7 games and getting to a bowl game. We achieved that, but I think we know as a team we left some wins out there due to my poor coaching at the end of first halves. I promise our players and fan base we will fix this in the next coming seasons."
With the game score at 21-17 in favor of the away team, the Raiders turned it on in the 3rd quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points en route to a 47-24 victory.
QB Nick Vaittano threw for 375 yards and 3 TD's with 2 of those TD's going to All American hopeful TE Holden Willis, who hauled in 11 receptions for 216 yards on the day.
The highlight of the game today was the Blue Raider defense, who finally put together four quarters and intercepted the Panthers QB off 5 times throughout the contest. CB Tyrone Raby brings his INT total on the season to 8 IT's breaking a long time school record that was over 25 years old.
Back in Miami for their season finale against MTSU, FIU is hoping to end the season on a high note but understands the task at hand trying to stop a high powered passing offense.
It was a tight game in the first half as MTSU took a 21-17 lead into the half. The second half was a completely different ball game and unfortunately for the Panthers, something they've dealt with throughout the season. FIU QB Haden Carlson struggled again throwing 5 interceptions which helped lead the Blue Raiders to a 47-24 win over the Panthers.
Coach Shiesty said he had much higher expectation for himself and his team in his first year and although they played some close games against some good teams and coaches, they just couldn't close out how they needed to.
