Coming off their two best outings all season vs Marshall and South Alabama, USM came into this game expecting much of the same but Troy and coach Chase made it clear early on it wouldn't be the case.
Troy disrupted a normally methodical offense and made them totally one dimensional. "we were seeing ghosts out there" said Riccio. USM pulled their starter in the 2h and went to a heavy run scheme to try to limit more mistakes.
Luckily for USM, Troy made some mistakes of their own and USM made them pay with 5 int's that changed the course of the game to an otherwise outplayed USM team.
The Troy Trojans wrapped up their home schedule against Sun Belt favorite Southern Miss tonight but were unable to leave with a win. The offense moved the ball productively but the recurring theme of Goose Crowder throwing too many interceptions this season was on display yet again. The Trojans shot themselves in the foot time and time again as Crowder went on to throw 5 costly interceptions that sealed their fait.
There were still some explosive plays offensively from start running back Damien Taylor as well as a rare kick return touchdown. Taylor rushed for 286 yards and had 47 receiving yards on the day with 1 rush TD and 1 receiving TD. Taylor has been the star of the show all year long but the Trojans continue to lose games due to lack of defense and turnover issues.
