USM played in a big conference battle to determine the fate of the Sun Belt West. South Alabama was on a roll dominating the majority of Sun Belt teams but today they ran into a determined USM squad coming off their best win of the season over Marshall.
USM played near flawless football much of the game with great ground and air attack to keep the chains moving. The ball stayed in USM hands most of the game and South Alabama was unable to sustain drives.
Rodrigues Clark dominated on the ground almost rushing for 200 yards and 3 td's. His ability to move the chains was the difference maker.
USM is not out of the woods yet and still has a couple conference games remaining and one non conference that they hope to get in later this week.
Southern Miss Dominates South Alabama 35-7 in Hattiesburg
The University of South Alabama Jaguars suffered a tough 35-7 loss on the road against the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. It was a difficult evening for the Jaguars, as they struggled to find their rhythm on both sides of the ball.
Freshman quarterback Gio Lopez faced a challenging outing, unable to get into a groove against Southern Miss’s relentless defense. Lopez finished the game without throwing a touchdown, and he was also picked off once in a key moment that halted a promising drive for the Jaguars.
South Alabama’s lone bright spot came from running back Braylon McReynolds, who scored the Jaguars' only touchdown with a solid rushing effort. McReynolds found the end zone, showing flashes of promise in an otherwise stagnant offensive performance.
Despite McReynolds' efforts, the Jaguars couldn’t keep pace with a Golden Eagles team that controlled the game from start to finish. The loss marks a setback for South Alabama as they look to regroup and improve in the coming weeks.
