Notre Dame Answers Wake Up Call

Article By: ReignOnU

The Notre Dame offense found themselves in unfamiliar territory at home against the Virginia Cavaliers tonight. After turning the ball over, the Cavs stole the momentum and stunned the South Bend crowd, with QB Sage Ennis finding Anthony Colandrea for a 10yd touchdown pass to give the Cavs 7-0 lead to start the game.

Coach Reign was seen slapping his own face multiple times on the sideline during the ensuing kickoff, clearly trying to snap back to reality. SR Riley Leonard answered the call and came through with an efficient 1:15 sec drive capped by Jeremiyah Love's 1st of 3 TDs on the day. On the kickoff, Kyngston Viliamu-Asa laid the lumber, knocking the ball free and the ever opportunistic Ben Minich snatched it up and took it back for a touchdown, to quickly put ND up 14-7.

From there, the flood gates were busted open, as the Notre Dame defense stood strong against the Cavs running game and had radar lock on everything Ennis put into the air. The Irish landed blow after blow, putting up 28 more points in the 4th and going into the half up 42-7, which is where the final score ended, as ND/Virginia went scoreless in the 2nd half, as both teams appeared eager to get some rest.

Highlights of the night included 3 TDs for HB Jeremiyah Love, 3 picks for S Xavier Watts and 6 total interceptions for the defense and 2 defensive scores.

Coach Reign: "The first few minutes of this game were a bit of a shocker for everyone here tonight. Riley threw an interception, which is only his 3rd or so of the season and Coach Toro's squad punched us right in the mouth, in our house, to go up early. We needed that tonight. I was happy to see our team respond so fiercely. It showed fire. Now, going forward, we don't have time to eat those punches. Big games ahead and we have to finish the job. Tip of the cap to Coach Toro for rallying the troops tonight and best of luck to the Cavs the rest of the season."
