UCF drops another heart breaker, as they lose on the road to a tough opponent and long time great coach VTrunNGun.
"It's just mind numbing to watch" said coach RB, where he once again sat on the sideline watching his secondary stand around while guys caught comebacks, out routes, corners, you name it, while on the other side of the ball the secondary jumps every route known to man.
Just not sure what's going on with our guys. Went from being able to stop people to all of a sudden our linebacks and dline are just watching guys run by them and not grabbing them. Corners sitting back and watching WRs run past them.
Hats off to ASU, the gameplan was sound and they executed to perfection. UCF will try to find the answers and they are now eliminated from conference contention. It'll be a dog fight to scratch to hit win goal but that's gotta be the goal!
In a high-octane showdown, Arizona State edged out UCF with a 31-23 victory, showcasing their offensive prowess and defensive resilience.
Arizona State’s offensive attack was spearheaded by an impressive passing game, racking up 354 yards through the air, compared to UCF’s 182 yards. The Sun Devils accumulated a total of 444 yards of offense, outpacing UCF’s 301 yards. Key to their success was their impeccable performance on third downs, converting five out of seven attempts, demonstrating their efficiency and clutch play.
On the ground, UCF managed to out-rush Arizona State with 119 rushing yards versus 90 for the Sun Devils. However, the disparity in passing yards and total offense played a crucial role in Arizona State’s win. UCF struggled with turnovers, giving up the ball twice compared to Arizona State’s single turnover, which proved costly in a tightly contested match.
Arizona State’s defense, while not registering any sacks, capitalized on UCF’s mistakes with two interceptions. The Sun Devils’ disciplined play was highlighted by a clean sheet in penalties, contrasting with UCF’s performance that saw them struggling to maintain possession and capitalize on opportunities.
In the special teams department, Arizona State’s superior kick returns and time of possession (15:35) gave them the edge over UCF’s 12:25. The Sun Devils also demonstrated their red-zone efficiency, converting one of their opportunities into a touchdown, while UCF had difficulty breaking through Arizona State’s red-zone defense.
Overall, it was a decisive win for Arizona State, reflecting their balanced offensive approach and strategic defensive plays. As they celebrate this hard-fought victory, UCF will need to regroup and refine their strategies moving forward.
