Coach Shiesty and the Panthers were able to bounce back last week and get another win on the season and looked like they carried that confidence into this game against New Mexico State. This wasn't a flashy, offensive game like we've gotten used to seeing from this FIU offense. In fact, the offense only provided 7 of their 21 points in this low scoring affair. Haden Carlson was sharp and Kejon Owens continued his solid season, eclipsing 100 yards and adds a rushing touchdown. The real bright spot was the defense and more specifically star corner Hezekiah Masses. Masses picked off NMSU's qb twice and returns both of them for touchdowns leading the Panthers to back to back wins. FIU gets their last bye week at a good time as they look to rest up and prep for the final 3 games of the year.
As the headline reads this was ugly from the jump as FIU raced out to a 21-0 lead after one. These were the only points scored during the game and two of the three TD’s for FIU were pick-sixes. That just a frustrating way to start any game that was hotly contested. NMSU and FIU defenses both played well as neither team came close to scoring in the final three quarters.
At 2-6 the Aggies need to right the ship and close the season with a couple of wins – to build for next season and some mental health for the coach.
GG FIU!
