Miami came into this rivalry game with the Seminoles knowing they have a small shot at the Conference Championship game if they were to win out. Their early play did not look like they had the eagerness that would be needed to win though. The Hurricanes got down early as their first offensive possessions did absolutely nothing. Florida St would get off to the early lead as on their second possession they would kick a 30 yard field goal to go up 3-0. The Miami offense would go 3 and out and give the ball right back to the Seminoles. They would then go on a 9 play drive that would end on a 19 yard TD pass and a 10-0 advantage. Miami would finally get the ball moving as Cam Ward would hook up with Xavier Restrepo for a 60 yard pass play and then two plays later Ward would hit Cam McCormick for a 20 yard pass and touchdown cutting the lead to 10-7. The Miami defense would come up huge next as Wesley Bissainthe would intercept a pass and take it back 52 yard for a touchdown and a 14-10 advantage. "That was a big play by Wesley," said Coach Dealer, "we needed to get a big play from our defense and they came up huge when we needed it." The Seminoles would be unfazed though. They would connect on a 49 yard FG on their next possession cutting the Miami lead to 1 at 14-13. The Seminole defense would make a huge play on the next Miami possession. Ward would look to hit on a pass but it was a little underthrown and FSU would get the interception. They would capitalize too as FSU would score a TD before the half and take a 20-14 lead. "That interception hurt," said Dealer, "we had the look that we wanted but just missed the throw. I let Cam know that he was okay and we just needed him to get back out there and play mistake free football."
The Canes defense would come up big in the first two Seminole possesions. Stopping them on their first drive and getting the ball back to the Miami offense. Miami would score on a 15 yard TD pass and take a 21-20 lead. Then the Canes defense would pick off the very next pass getting the ball right back to the offense. Miami would strike quickly as Ward would hit Jacolby George for a 35 yard TD pass and a 28-20 lead. The Seminoles would not be put down though, as they would connect on a 46 yard TD pass to cut the lead to 28-26 with 5minutes left in the 4th. Miami would stop them on the 2 point conversion though. Both defenses would get stops and Miami would then put the game out of reach after a Damien Martinez 1 yard TD run. "That was a tough game. I'm glad we got the W and hopefully we can build on that," said Dealer.
FSU’s coach cracker was fired up after a Loss in what he calls a must win game, was the pressure too much? Did this rookie coach not spend enough time creating a game plan? Either way you look at it. Things were going good early, but as the game went on Miamis ability to adjust on both sides of the ball was enough to get the job done. Florida state turned the ball over in big moments where touchdowns were a must have to keep momentum going. And they failed, miserably. IF coach cracker is able to keep the HC job at FSU next season, he will look at Miami’s rematch as the game of the season that HE MUST WIN.
