That is what Jacksonville State surrendered defensively, just through the air in an embarrassing loss to Middle Tennessee State.
Middle Tennessee State also punched in a touchdown on the ground en route to a 56-35 thrashing of the Gamecocks.
Jacksonville State stayed close until a Zion Turner pass was intercepted and returned to give the Blue Raiders a three touchdown advantage. The inability to stop anything defensively never gave JSU a chance to get close despite an incredible effort from their rushing attack on the day.
The Jacksonville State ground game was led by HB Anwar Lewis who carried the ball 40 times on the day, running for 237 yards and four touchdowns.
The JSU offense has improved significantly since the beginning of the season when they scored just 67 points in their first three games. Since then the Gamecocks have averaged 33.5 points a game and have limited turnovers in most games. The defense however shows no signs of improvement, even if in a position to make a play on the ball, the effort is just not there as JSU continues to surrender big play after big play.
Jacksonville State is now 2-5 on the year and fighting off a lot of questions in regard to Head Coach Block M's job security from the local media.
Jacksonville, AL (AP) - The scoreboard lights were almost getting dulled out due to so much activity Sunday morning as the host Jax St cocks hosted the Blue Raiders of MTSU.
QB Nick Vaitano broke two school records in todays contest for the Raiders, ultimately leading his team to victory as well as 56 points in the contest.
Vaitano was 20/24 passing for 501 yards and 7 TD's in the contest. His school record for TD passes/yards and a rating of 338.3 will all go down in the record books for hopefully years to come at this campus, stated coach Dietz after their much needed conference win.
Jax St needs to be commended for their impressive run game, they were able to pound the rock inside, outside, and everywhere else in between. Unfortunately their defense let them down or else this game would have been closer than the score indicates.
MTSU has two more games with La Tech as well as Kennesaw in the coming weeks that will create a clearer picture of the conference race for the top. GG Block
