In the heart of their MAC schedule BGSU welcomed rival Kent state and Head Coach Bergerking to Bowling Green. The Falcons received the opening KO and methodically drove the ball to go up 7-0. On their second play of the game, Kent St hit a wide open streak up the left side for a long TD. It was a gain a long drive by BGSU to go up 14-7, but again KSU answered with a hell of a run by their star RB Garcia who broke for over 80 on their first play to answer at 14.
On the third possession it came down to a 4th and 1 inside the 20, as Bazelek hit Wimberly in the flat to give a 21-14 lead back to the Falcons. On the ensuing drive, finally the Falcons didn't give up a long TD, and they were able to turn over the Flashes in the EZ on an interception, to finally break serve.
Kent State sold out for the run on the first play from 2, and damn near had the safety (Still no clue how it wasn't), but fortunately for the Falcons they converted on a long 3rd and 12, and ended up having a 12 play nearly 4 min drive to end the half at 28-14.
From their the Falcons leaned on their pass D forcing 21 more interceptions and committed to running the ball with Stewart and Wimberly while Bazelek had his best game since early in the season, eventually wearing down their rivals 49-21
Kent State faced a challenging game this week, falling 49-28 after a promising start. The Golden Flashes were tied 14-14 after the first quarter, but a turnover in the end zone during the second quarter proved to be a turning point that shifted momentum away from Kent State.
Nick Giacolone, a linebacker for the Golden Flashes, had a particularly tough moment in the game when he dropped an easy interception. This missed opportunity could have changed the dynamic of the game, preventing the opposition from gaining crucial yards and potentially altering the outcome.
Defensively, Kent State struggled to stop the pass, allowing the opposing offense to capitalize on several big plays. The secondary was unable to contain the passing attack, which contributed to the widening gap on the scoreboard as the game progressed.
While the Golden Flashes showed potential in the first quarter, they'll need to focus on improving their ball security and tightening up their pass defense as they prepare for the next challenge. Coach BergerKing and his team will be looking to bounce back stronger in their upcoming games.
