USM came out hoping to continue on their hot start to the season but it wasn't meant to be. The Golden Eagles made countless mistakes including throwing a pick 6 on a screen pass and dropping 3 or 4 easy user INT's.
"you can't expect to make mistakes and win" Riccio said after the game.
USM was led by Rodrigues Clark who scored 2 times on the ground in the game.
In a back and forth game, Arkansas State scores with 40 seconds left in the 4th quarter to beat Southern Miss 31-28. Quarterback Jaylen Raynor had an up and down game throwing for 331 yards, but he had some costly interceptions especially in the red zone that halted drives. The last drive, the Red Wolves try to milk the clock down forcing the Eagles to use all their timeouts. This resulted in a 1 yard touchdown run by back-up tight end (fullback) Miller McCrumby.
Thank goodness they made Southern Miss use all of their timeouts because they got to the 39 yard with one second left. One last pass into the endzone was knocked away to seal the victory.
