The University of Washington Huskies had a good week of practice and eliminated some fluff from their playbook, leading to a close loss to the Michigan Wolverines, 36-34 after a failed pitch was stuffed at the goal line.
"We've got a disappointed locker room, but I saw a lot of improvement. Our interceptions are still too many, but I felt like in a game where we couldn't have a ton of success running the ball, we really passed the ball pretty well. Ultimately we couldn't stop Donovan Edwards, and theyy just beat us up front on both sides of the ball."
Michigan began the scoring on another long pick six after the Huskies had driven to the end zone, and got out to an early 10-0 lead. Ultimately after some back and forth, the score was 17-10 Michigan at the half.
"You know it's easy to think we lost that game on the last play, but if Rogers doesn't throw that pick and we at least come away with a field goal, this game could have been different."
Despite Michigan extending the lead to 27-17 after three quarters, the Huskies showed resilience and got some quick drives to tie the score at 27-27 by the end of regulation.
"We need to work on our two minute drill," said Coach Doodee. "I think Will Rogers forgot how to spike the ball in the hurry up offense. We should have had more chances at a go ahead touchdown."
After some exciting and close plays in the first two overtimes, it came down to the 2 point conversion round, and the UM bigs were just too big and fast.
"You know, I don't know what the future holds, but we're finding our footing. We're going to disappoint someone on our schedule, I just know it."
The Wolverines escape Husky Stadium with a win in Triple Overtime. In a game where the Wolverines led by 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Huskies Defense made solid stops late in the 4th quarter and their Offense drove on the Wolverine Defense to tie the game with seconds left on the clock.
Coach Phreakk was asked about the down fall prior to setting up his Overtime Strategy. He said, "We were unable to get first downs when it counted and our defense got beat. Coach Doodee showed adversity and called the right plays to tie the game".
Michigan won the toss and turned to their workhorse Edwards to drive the ball in for a Touch Down. The Huskies scored on their first OT possession with some quick passes down the field. In the wildest period of Overtime ever, both teams throw an interception on the very first play. Leading to 2 point conversions in the 3rd OT where the Wolverines were able to score and stuff the Huskies run game to escape with a victory.
Coach Phreakk mentioned at the end of the game that he needs to slow down the game, work on clock management and keeping a lead for 4 quarters.
Doodee, Thank you for an amazing game, Great Come Back and Most important, it was great speaking with you on the mic!
