The even quarters were good to Troy today as they emassed 31 points in the 2nd and 4th quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 31-7 in those quarters. IN a game that saw the Bobcats able to be efficient on the ground once again, only to see McCloud throw 5 interceptions, but none more costly than the pick 6 to seal the game with under 2 minutes to go.
Bobcats had their chance even with 4 interceptions late in the 4th quarter, as they were driving to take the lead in the game. Troy however continued to confuse McCloud and he threw his 4th interception of the game which was returned for a touchdown.
The Troy State Trojans played their second straight home "fun belt" conference game this week and were able to secure a win against Texas State. This game was even closer than the scoreboard indicates as the Trojans were able to pull away late with a defensive touchdown.
Texas State outgained Troy offensively 466 yards to 418 but The Trojans had 5 interceptions total on the day and were able to play enough bend but not break defense to get the win with a (+4) turnover margin.
Neither team punted the ball and were each able to move the ball up and down the field. Texas State opened the game with a bang on a long touchdown run and early on it looked like Troy was in trouble but The Trojans were able to rebound offensively to get the game competitive again. Coach AUChase told us "This is what we talked about after our come from behind win at UAB earlier this year. You can't panic and you have to trust the game plan. If you abandon what you believe in you will only dig a bigger hole. We returned the favor as Goose Crowder threw his own interception early in the game but we had faith in him to get out there and keep slinging it to open up the ground game for us."
The Trojans move to 2-0 in Sun Belt play and have a daunting task going on the road to the toughest place to play in America as they face off with the Texas A&M Aggies in Week 7.
