Utah's defense was dominant over and over again in this one as they controlled the pace of the game and constantly harrassed the Wildcat offense. In total, the Utes drummed up 6 turnovers which led to points for Utah over and over again.
The game was really a tale of three parts. In the first half, Utah caused three turnovers and raced out to a 21-0 lead at the half. Arizona could do nothing right and kept throwing ill-timed passes directly in to the heard of the Utah defense.
QB Nicki Fifita however settled down in the 3rd quarter and led the Wildcats back with three straight scoring drives to pull withing 1 point of Utah at 21-20. It looked like it might be a game again at that point but the Utes defense decided that would not be the case.
The fourth quarter of this one was all Utah as their defense clamped down on Arizona and the offense scored at will. The Utes easily pulled away for the win and dashed the dream of the Wildcats landing their first conference win.
Utah's performance in the first half was the key to their 38-20 victory over Arizona, as they built an impressive 21-point lead before halftime. From the outset, the Utes' offense executed flawlessly, with their quarterback and running backs orchestrating a series of quick, efficient drives that overwhelmed the Wildcats' defense. Utah's defense complemented the offensive surge by stifling Arizona's attempts to respond, ensuring a comfortable cushion by the break. Despite a very spirited second-half effort from the Wildcats, who managed to narrow the gap to 1 point, Utah's early advantage proved insurmountable.
