When was the last time Mississippi St won a game let alone a conference game when putting up less than 200 yards total on offense, I'll wait.... That exact situation happened in Austin on Saturday afternoon, the Bulldogs offense was stuck in mud all afternoon but was bailed out tremendously by the defense AND special teams
In a game that was 14-7 after the first quarter the Bulldogs would take over the next 3 quarters winning 24-7. SR Wideout an kick returner Mario Craver would take a kick 101 yards to the house to help swing momentum back towards Mississippi St right after a Texas touchdown late in the first quarter. From there on out it would be the defense who won the day, picking off Texas JR QB Quinn Ewers 4 times, 2 of which would go all the way back the other way. (RS) FR MLB TB Hinton would get two of those 1 being returned for a touchdown early in the second half. Hinton would add 8 tackles an a half a sack to finish his day. SR Safety Corey Ellington would not be out shined by the freshman, with the Longhorns driving deep into Bulldog territory it would be Ellington to step in front of a pass in the flats to take it back 90 plus yards to seal the game
Things don't get any easier for the Bulldogs after the bye week as they will head to Athens an take on #1 Georgia
In a game between new SEC Foe, Texas Longhorns and the Mississippi State Bulldogs, big plays proved too big to overcome.
Early on, We looked destined for a showdown that could come down to the last play. Late in the first quarter, after the first of two touchdown connections between Quinn Ewers and Matthew Golden to tie the game 7-7, the game shifted with a Mississippi State Kick Return touchdown for 101 yards by Mario Craver. Texas would look destined to again tie the game but were stopped for a FG Attempt that was blocked. From there, The bulldogs would post another touchdown and make it 21-7 at half.
In the second half, The Longhorns would find some success in the air but couldn't avoid the big mistake as the bulldogs intercepted Quinn Ewers 4 times, two returned for touchdowns leading to a final score of 38-14.
The Bulldogs were mistake free on offense, and nothing short of amazing on defense.
Coach Z was noticeably disappointed with the result and had few words to say after the game.
"We are disappointed with our effort with high leverage situations today, the Bulldogs were just better. Period"
