Stanford came down to Death Valley and were considered heavy underdogs to the formidable Tigers of Clemson. The game started out just that way as the Tigers offense would pound the Cardinal defense and jump out to a 14-0 lead after one, while shutting g down the men from Palo Alto. Maybe it was the jet lag but the team was jump started in the 2nd quarter by a pick 6 to cut the lead to 14-7. Stanford would intercept another Klubnick pass but be stopped before taking it to the house, which would turn out to be pivotal as Ashton Daniels would be sacked and fumble the ball back 2 plays later. The Tigers running back would house the ball to push the lead back to 2 td’s again.
The Stanford defense would not lay down however and would take another pass to the endzone for a score. Later, Amari g another pass to get the ball back.
The game came down to a 4th down and inches inside the 5 with just under a minute to play, the Cardinal almost reared up for one last gasp effort but the back fell just over the first down line somehow and 2 plays later Clemson took a touchdown lead with about 40 seconds remaining.
Stanford did not lay down and allow the clock to run out and had 2 great chances to tie the game from about the 30 yard line but one pass was just overthrown and one pass was knocked to the ground.
“I liked the resolve of my team, we came into one of the most hostile environments against one of the top teams in the country and took them to the wire. There are no moral victories but we showed what we can do against top competition. This is how we need to compete going forward.” Said Coach TheRealDray
Great job Ry good luck the rest of the way bud!
The Tigers behind Klubniks accurate passing and the powerful running of Phil Maffah opened up a quick 14-0 lead and were ready to add one when disaster struck. From then on Clemson managed to throw three pick sixes (yes, you read that right) but fortunately they also had a pick six plus a big forced fumble and recovery.
Phil Maffah was a monster all game long. He racked up 288 yards rushing and four touchdowns
"We have to focus on ball security and making good decisions" said Coach Ry. Meanwhile Stanford's DBs were ready for action once the first quarter ended. Stanford was also able to get the passing game going as they were able to connect a few big catch and runs during the game.
There were big plays all game long. It was fun. Thanks for playing and good luck rest of the way. Ry
