Bearkats Bit by Incurable Turnover Bug

Article By: jamesthecarman

In its' natural habit of East Texas, a Bearkat is an apex predator. It's achilles heal, is the turnover bug.

These Bearkats were up 13-7 at the two minute warning in the 4th.

In a bid to prevent the turnover bug, the more accurate but slower Grant Gunnel was called on to lead the offense for this one. Jase Bauer, the usual starting QB caught the turnover bug against Hawaii right before this game, so it was hoped Gunnel would be the safer choice.

Well, it looks like the bug infected Gunnel as well. 1 fumble on 3rd and 6 from the 35 (by an swimming Peleti that would give Michael Phelps a swim for his money), was the beginning of the end. While Colby Sessums had made a 51 yarder in the first quarter, it was more likely the Bearkats would attempt a coffin corner punt.

Well, the best laid plans of Bearkats and men, didn't end up as planned. Gunnel fumbled, the Aggies of NM State fell on it. Then drove for a TD to lead by 1 (14-13).

Then there was an interception. And another TD. The Aggies then had an 8 point lead.

Then there was some ice skating on grass. Sam Houston's WR was about to make his cut, when he got collected by a defender heading the opposite way (pre-pass, so no PI, and I've never seen illegal contact downfield called in any football game)....and Isaac Newton turned over in his grave as the WR was forced to skate uncontrollably inside for 4 yards (did I mention on grass?)....and the ball went to the middle of nowhere that a Bearkat was, but an eager Aggie Safety was there, in what was Gunnel's 4th and final interception.

The Bearkats will head back to the drawing board. Could a 3rd QB get the start next game? Could it be the issue isn't with the QB, but could be between the seat and display, and Coach Carman holding a controller instead of a racing wheel? Is the turnover bug real? Is this the real life, or just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality? Maybe a scaramouche can help the Bearkats in the next game? Or the fandango?

Oh, in other news, Leon didn't make the stat sheet. He was out there in 4 DL sets, but had a whiff or two and no tackles.

DEFENSE RULES THE DAY WITH NMSU/SHSU

Article By: oldschoola

You tell me I have 190 yards of offense I tell you I lose 35-0. This was not the case as the Aggies traveled to SHSU to take on the Bearkats (what’s a Bearkat – Texas making animals up now). NMSU offense with 190 yards and SHSU with 218 – this was not one for any offensive-minded fan to watch. SH jumped out to a 13-0 first-half lead but the Aggies held their composure in the second half and outscored SH 21-0 for the come-from-behind 21-13 win. It took two fourth-quarter TDs to secure the win and Coach Oldschoola was proud of his team “We fought all game long. We got down in the first, made some halftime adjustments, and shut them out in the second half, and has a plus three in the turnover column.”

This had a little bit of crazy involved with the turnovers but the Aggies will take the win all the same.
