Coach Doodee will treat this Apple Cup in a special way

It's Doodee in the Apple Cup!

Article By: Doodee

Coach Doodee and Washington Huskies won their first game of the season against state rival Washington State in Pullman in a battle of interceptions, ultimately prevailing 28-23.

"We threw a pick six early, and couldn't protect the quarterback," said Coach Doodee. "It seemed like half of our incompletions never made it past our offensive line."

Jonah Coleman was again the lone consistent force of the Washington offense, rushing for 120 yards on 14 carries, 83 of that coming on a long TD run that shifted the momentum.

"I'm so thankful the I-formation is still available,"the coach said. "We are finding some success running out of the gun, but it's nice to come back to the old faithful formations of yesteryear. We've got to get better in the passing game, and find ways to protect the quarterback. He just doesn't have much time to make decisions."

The game started in disastrous fashion for the Huskies, as Will Rogers threw a pick six less than :40 seconds into the game. Wazzu would score again early in the 2nd quarter on a John Mateer pass to Kyle Williams to take a 13-0 lead after a missed XP. Washington finally calmed down and scored on two drives with the long Coleman run, and a short field from an interception that ended in a corner route touchdown pass from Rogers to Giles Jackson.

Washington continued the scoring in the 3rd quarter with a 64 yard Justin HIghsmith interception return and a 13 yard pass from Rogers to Jeremiah Hunter across the middle from 13 yards out to make the score 28-16. Although WSU scored to open the fourth quarter and close the gap, the Huskies were able to get a fourth down stop and an interception late to seal the game and kneel for Doodee's first win since 2008.

"Cougnix is another vet coach that is really trying to do things the right way," said Doodee. "He's got a really balanced attack and I feel like that game could have gone either way. I swear some of those INTs were going straight through players. We threw a couple that could have been picked also. We need to go watch some tape. We still haven't had a moment to watch our thrashing from Northwestern."

Washington is now 1-2 before it gets to some much higher rated teams.

"The way I see it, I'm just learning to coach again, and it's fun. Too bad the players have to suffer."
