Miami went into the Swamp hoping to be able to make some noise and win their Rivalry game. They were unable to do that as they took a beating from the Florida Gators. "The crowd noise and the Gator defense were too much for us," said Coach Dealer, "by the time we were able to get anything going the game was already out of hand."
The Gators would jump out to a 24-0 lead behind a strong running game and key broken tackles. "We had a couple big missed tackles that really cost us," said Dealer, "we had chances to force them to punt, and we just could not wrap up when we needed to."
The offense had one good drive, when they crowd noise died down because everyone had gone early to the bathroom and concession stand lines. Miami was able to pull it to 24-7, but that quickly was back to a 24 point lead as Florida would score as the clock ran out to make it 31-7.
The Gators would tack on another TD to start the 3rd quarter and Miami was not able to put anything together.
"Hopefully we can come back and play a lot better in our next against Mizzou," said Cam Ward, "I have to be better and stop turning the ball over to give our team any kind of chance on the road."
The Coach FTB era starts on a positive note after a lot of pre-season speculation with a 38-7 win over rival Miami in the Battle of the Seminole War Canoe.
The Florida offense was explosive behind the performance of Player of the Game, Freshman RB KD Daniels. Daniels recorded 13 carries for 131 yards on the day with two trips to the endzone while Senior RB Montrell Johnson Jr. added 15 carries for 86 yards and two TDs of his own. The Gators appear to have a two-headed monster with Daniels and Johnson Jr.. The Gator defense was led by Junior MLB Shemar James who tallied 7 Total Tackles, 1 TFL and 1 INT. The Gators defense as a unit forced a total of 4 turnovers in front of a home crowd that was absolutely pumping at The Swamp.
The Gators have a bye in week 2 and will welcome Texas A&M to Gainesville in Week 3.
