Kelly's 2nd quarter interception kept Sun Devils from increasing their lead to 14
ARIZONA STATE FALLS TO UTAH 35-28

Sun Devils' Offense and Defense Fail When Needed

The Arizona State Sun Devils played host to the Utah Utes in a PAC 12 battle.

Arizona State received the ball to start the game and put together a good drive that resulted in a touchdown when Kelly connected with Ozier from 15 yards. Utah struck right back when their drive ended up in the endzone on Wilson's 22 yard pass to Murphy. Two plays later, Kelly connected with Smith from 25 yards out for a touchdown and a 14-7 lead. The Utes would answer, again, as their long drive resulted in a Wilson to Williams 4 yard touchdown. Arizona State would take the lead, on the very next play from scrimmage, when Grice scored on a 79 yard touchdown run to end the first quarter with a 21-14 lead. The Sun Devil defense looked to give their offense a chance to increase the lead when they picked off Wilson on Utah's next play. Despite the short field, however, the Utah defense would pick off Kelly to keep within 7. The offense would answer the defense's call when they drove down the field and tied the game on a Wilson to Fitzgerald 3 yard touchdown. The Utes' defense would continue to shift momentum when they forced a three and out by the Sun Devils. The Utah offense would give the ball back though when Arizona State recovered their fumble. But with under a minute to go, Arizona State was unable to convert the turnover into points and the teams went into the half tied at 21.

Utah got the ball to start the second half and took their first lead of the game when their drive resulted in a 1 yard touchdown run by Wilson. Arizona State answered back with a drive that tied the game on Foster's 1 yard touchdown run. Utah took the lead back on a long drive when Wilson crossed the goalline from 1 yard out. With 4:51 remaining, Arizona State was unable to get anything going and was forced to punt and send their defense out to do work. But Utah was able to keep the ball moving and run off the remaining 3:42 to seal the victory.
