Clemson, SC - The Clemson Tigers hosted the NC State Wolfpack and had dreams of getting out to a 1-0 start in conference play. NC State didn't want that.
Clemson would be forced into a 3rd and long early only to see Boyd hook up with Watkins on a deep pass for the early 7-0 lead in the 1st. The Clemson D would stand strong and keep NC State away from the end zone throughout the first quarter.
In the 2nd, Clemson would add to their lead and make it 10-0 off a 29 yarder. The Wolfpack would finally get in the scoring column however when they added their own 33 yarder prior to the half.
In the 3rd quarter, State would be the only team to score when they added 7 off a 4 yard run by Thornton.
The defenses would grow lax in the 4th when each team would score multiple TD's. Clemson struck first with a 4 yard pass to Peake. State would respond shortly after hitting Creecy on an 8 yard pass. After a great return by Watkins, the Tigers would think they went up for good on a 7 yard pass to Hopper making it 24-17 with 2 minutes left in the game. NCSU would drive down quickly though and score a TD leaving just over a minute on the clock. Boyd would lead his team down the field and get into FG range, but a costly mistake on 3rd and long would push them just out of range and see Catanzaro miss a 54 yarder to win the game.
In OT, Clemson would again strike first but could only get a FG. NCSU would be able to add 6 off a nice pass to Payton to seal the win for Coach doc and his Wolfpack.
GG doc. Look forward to some games in the future (fingers crossed). Good luck this season.
