Whitlock led an inspired defensive effort
Wake Takes Another Nailbiter

Late Kentucky fumble seals it

After giving up 40 points in their season opener and then letting Kentucky march 12 plays for a TD on their opening drive, Wake Forest fans had little to cheer about. But the Demon Deacons' defense rose to the occasion the rest of the game and led Wake Forest to victory.

Wake Forest answered the Wildcats' opening score quickly as Tanner Price connected with TE Anthony Rook on a 73 yard TD. Zachary Allen then intercepted Maxwell Smith, and Wake struck again. Tanner Price ran in a option keeper from 18 out and Wake led 14-7. Kentucky would score with 50 seconds in the half to tie the game at 14. Tanner Price threw his first INT of the season to end the first half in the end zone. Price had connected with Brandon Terry for 70 yards inside Kentucky's 5, but a TD saving tackle then the interception swung momentum the Wildcats way headed into the break.

Third quarter was dominated by defense and special teams, Alex Kinal, the Wake Forest punter, twice pinned Kentucky inside its 10 and Nikita Whitlock had a huge forced fumble for the Deacons.

The good field position led to a fourth quarter scoring TD from Price to Terry. A 26 yard catch put Wake up 21-14. With a minute to go, Wake had a chance to put the game away, but Chad Hedlund missed a FG, giving Kentucky one final opportunity. Maxwell Smith hit TE Kendricks on the first play for 32 yards putting Kentucky inside Wake's 45. The next play, Smith scrambled out of the pocket towards the right sideline, Whitlock chased him down and stripped the ball with a one-handed tackle, Wake recovered at their 35 and was able to kneel out.
