UNC knocks off Oklahoma in Norman 31 - 17
AJ Blue rushes for 153 yards and 3 touchdowns in upset victory
The North Carolina Tar Heels quieted the home crowd early and kept the Oklahoma Sooners off balance the entire game and came away with an unlikely road victory early in this season. The UNC defense played up to their potential and made the Oklahoma offense work for every yard they gained. They didn't give up any long touchdowns and forced 3 turnovers derailing the powerful Sooner offense.
On the offensive side of the ball, UNC rode the back of AJ Blue and he carried them to the win. Blue ran the ball 21 times for 153 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sean Tapley led the UNC receivers with 6 catches for 123 yards and Brynn Renner had a workman like day at quarterback completing 11 of 19 passes for 203 yards. Renner tossed for 1 touchdown in the game and one interception. The TD pass was a nice 18 yard corner route to TJ Thorpe. The touchdown came on a third and 14 late in the third quarter and put the Tar Heels up by 14 points.
UNC next faces Georgia Tech in their first conference match-up of the season.
