Cougs Build 1st Half Lead, Barely Hold On

After going in at halftime up 17-3, Cougars have to score on last possession and hold on defense to secure win.

The Cougars headed to Memphis to play an OOC game pitting two Northwest coaches against each other. Coach Cougnix from Washington and a Coug alum versus Coach Oldchoola from Oregon. It looked as though in the beginning that WSU was going to coast to an easy victory, but the Tigers had other plans. In the first half, Damien Jenkins was able to get a vertical route from Connor Halliday and trot 29 yards for the first score of the game. The Cougars defense showed that they were not going to be beat on the ground, holding Memphis to (-36) yards rushing, but Memphis adjusted and threw the ball all over the yard. On the Tigers 2nd possession the Cougs held to a FG and on the ensuing kick off, Gabe Marks burst through the middle of the kick off team and scored on a 104 yard return. In the second half, Memphis got rolling. Throwing for over 400 yards, the Tigers answered WSU's first half and tied the game at 24 late in the 4th quarter. Halliday put together a great drive and hit Mayle to put the Cougs in FG range, but Gerard Wicks decided a TD was better and gave the Cougs a 31-24 lead. Anthony Carpenter sealed the victory with his 2nd pick of the game and gave the Cougs the road victory.

GG schools, always enjoy the games.
